Deoxynucleotide triphosphates (dNTPs) are the nucleoside triphosphates containing deoxyribose. They are the building blocks of DNA, and they lose two of the phosphate groups when incorporated into DNA during replication. They are preferred nucleotide substrates in producing either homo- or heteropolymeric tails depending on whether single dNTP or all four dNTPs are supplied. During the sequencing reaction, DNA polymerase synthesizes copies of the target DNA from a pool of dNTPs.
